How to manually copy an XML form to Android

Last Updated: Oct 16, 2014 12:41PM EDT
This article describes how to copy a finished XML form file to an Android device running KoBoCollect. This is normally not required when using the new generation KoBoToolbox as forms are pushed through the Internet (or a local network) to your Android devices. When copying the file using the below method you will not be able to upload data to the online version of KoBoToolbox. Instead, you could use a tool like KoBoSync to aggregate the collected survey data on a local computer.

This assumes you have already downloaded an XML version of your form.
  1. Make sure KoBoCollect is installed
  2. Connect the Android device to your computer
  3. Open your file explorer (My Computer on Windows; Finder on Mac) and locate your device
[If you are on Windows, special drivers may be needed to access the device's internal storage: Check with your device manufacturer on specific drivers that may be needed]
  4. Open the odk folder, then open the forms folder.
  5. Copy-paste the XML file from your local computer into the /odk/forms folder
  6. In KoBoCollect, open Fill Blank Form. Your form should display on the next screen.
